The short version

Wash cold, inside out, less often than you think. Hang dry. That's most of it.

Loopback cotton

• —Cold wash, gentle cycle, inside out
• —Hang dry — a tumble dryer is what kills the shape
• —Wash after three or four wears, not every wear
• —Don't iron the ribbing

Heavy loopback compacts as it's worn. The first few washes will take a small amount of length out of the body; that's the fabric settling, not a defect.

Overdyed pieces

Pigment sits on the surface of the yarn, so the first three washes will release colour. Wash separately until the water runs clear. The fading at the seams and cuffs is the point.

Ripstop and twill

• —Cold wash, tumble low
• —Twill will fade with wear and sun. That's intended.

Merino

Hand wash cold, dry flat. Never tumble.
